Important limitations and disclaimers about Healup's AI-powered nutrition tracking.
Last updated: 15 May 2026
⚠️ Important: Healup is a general wellness tool, not a medical device. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making changes to your diet, exercise routine, or medication.
1. Not medical advice
The information, data, and content provided by Healup — including calorie estimates, macro breakdowns, nutrient quality scores, hydration targets, exercise logs, and AI coach suggestions — are for general informational and wellness purposes only. Nothing in Healup constitutes or should be construed as:
- Medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
- Dietary advice from a registered dietitian or nutritionist.
- A treatment plan for any medical condition, including obesity, diabetes, eating disorders, cardiovascular disease, or any other health condition.
- A recommendation to start, change, or stop any medication or medical treatment.
Always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition, dietary restriction, or fitness goal. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking it because of something you have seen in Healup.
2. Not a medical device
Healup is a consumer mobile application for general wellness tracking. It is not a regulated medical device under any jurisdiction, including but not limited to:
- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) medical device regulations.
- The EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR 2017/745).
- Indian medical device regulations under the Medical Devices Rules, 2017.
Healup has not been reviewed, cleared, or approved by any government health authority as a medical device or diagnostic tool.
3. AI accuracy disclaimer
Healup uses artificial intelligence (specifically OpenAI's GPT-4o vision model) to estimate the calorie and macro content of food from photographs. These estimates are inherently approximate and subject to significant limitations:
- Portion size uncertainty: The AI estimates portion size from a 2D image without knowing the depth of the food, the size of the plate, or the weight of the food.
- Preparation method: The same food prepared differently (boiled vs. fried, with oil vs. without) can have substantially different calorie and macro values.
- Ingredient variation: Brand-specific and recipe-specific ingredients vary. A "chocolate brownie" from a restaurant may differ significantly from a homemade one.
- Obscured or mixed foods: Casseroles, curries, salads, and other mixed dishes are harder to analyse than individual ingredients.
- Lighting and image quality: Poor lighting or low image resolution reduces accuracy.
Typical AI food scan estimates may vary from laboratory-measured values by 10–40% or more depending on the factors above. Healup nutrition data should be treated as a helpful guide, not a precise measurement.
For precise dietary management (e.g., medically supervised diets, competitive athletics), we recommend supplementing Healup's estimates with verified food databases and professional guidance.
4. Barcode and food database accuracy
Healup's barcode scanner retrieves nutrition data from third-party databases including Open Food Facts and the USDA FoodData Central. While these databases are comprehensive and community-maintained, Healup cannot guarantee the accuracy or completeness of any entry. Nutrition labels on packaged foods may also differ from database values due to reformulations or regional variations.
5. Calorie targets and projections
Calorie targets and weight projection features in Healup are based on established scientific formulas (including the Mifflin-St Jeor equation for BMR and Harris-Benedict activity multipliers). These are estimates. Actual calorie needs vary significantly between individuals based on genetics, hormonal status, gut microbiome, medication use, and other factors not captured by standard equations.
Do not use Healup's calorie targets as the basis for extreme caloric restriction or any diet that could pose health risks without first consulting a healthcare professional.
6. Eating disorders and vulnerability
Calorie and macro tracking tools may not be appropriate for individuals with or in recovery from eating disorders (including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, or orthorexia). If you have a history of or are currently experiencing disordered eating, please consult a qualified mental health professional or dietitian before using Healup.
If you are in crisis, please contact a mental health helpline in your country. In India, you can contact iCall at 9152987821.
7. Exercise information
Calorie burn estimates for exercises logged in Healup are based on established MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) values and your personal parameters. Actual calorie burn depends on individual factors including fitness level, body composition, and exercise intensity. These are estimates only.
Consult a fitness professional before beginning a new exercise programme, especially if you have any cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, or other health conditions.
8. AI coach
The AI Coach feature in Healup provides personalised tips, meal suggestions, and encouragement based on your logged data. This feature uses artificial intelligence and does not constitute advice from a registered dietitian, nutritionist, physician, or any other licensed health professional. Suggestions from the AI Coach are general in nature and may not account for your specific health conditions, allergies, medications, or clinical needs.
9. No emergency services
Healup does not provide emergency services. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call your local emergency number (e.g., 112 in India, 911 in the US, 999 in the UK) immediately.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Web Ninja Solutions Private Limited shall not be liable for any harm, loss, injury, or adverse health outcome resulting from reliance on Healup's data, estimates, or AI suggestions. Use of Healup is at your own risk. See our Terms & Conditions for the full limitation of liability.

Healup may display links to or information from third-party sources including nutrition databases and fitness guides. We do not endorse or guarantee the accuracy of third-party content. Access third-party resources at your own discretion.
